SLP Certification not required. 

 

  • Facilitates all aspects of the BCW transition process (obtaining intake, scheduling, conducting transition meetings, following up on needed documents, opening evaluation templates for BCW students, completing vision screenings, following up with parents and teachers on assessments, and completing other duties as needed
  • Collaborates with community agencies to coordinate or gain information needed for transitions and preschool developmental assessments

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Georgia Educator Certification as required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.  Special Education field/area of learning disabilities, interrelated or intellectual disabilities preferred. Eight years of teaching in a special education area.  Working knowledge of academic testing used in the determination of students’ eligibility for special education.

 

 

GOAL

Conduct educational assessment of students referred for initial special education consideration or for re-evaluation.  

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete educational evaluations for students referred for special education assessment, either as initial evaluations or re-evaluations.

  • Conduct hearing and vision screenings relative to special education referrals, and coordinate follow-up on student failure of any sensory assessment.

  • Conduct student observations in the seven areas of learning deficit relative to special education referrals and complete written form.

  • Conduct teacher and parent interviews relative to special education referrals in order to develop the appropriate educational assessment for the student.

  • Compile an educational evaluation summary report for each student assessed.

  • Provide additional information on students evaluated as requested by school personnel.

  • Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.

  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable, and punctual manner.

  • Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.

  • Maintain professional knowledge regarding current best practices in general and special education pertinent to the assigned school.

  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures.

  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
