MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of a General Education Development (GED) Testing Program. College experience preferred. A high level of professionalism and excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish may be required in some schools. Strong public speaking and presentation skills. Proficient in the use of technology (i.e., e-learning software, digital and social media). Understanding and respect of the diversity of families’ economic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds and situations. Ability to host parent and staff meetings. Experience with developing collaborative partners and building relationships with constituents in the community. Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.

 

GOAL

Identify and implement evidence-based strategies of family engagement to support student achievement. Develop, administer and continually build a program that provides resources for parents to become engaged in their children’s education. Provide supporting services to build parent capacity to meet the educational needs of students.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with parents, teachers and the school’s leadership team to develop a family-friendly school climate and develop relationships with parents.

  • Provide families with the means to communicate with the school and their child’s teachers.

  • Coordinate opportunities for parents and volunteers to contribute in positive ways towards student achievement and recognize their contributions.

  • Promote parents as partners by involving them in the decision-making process regarding family engagement activities and school improvement.

  • Provide workshops, classes and activities for parents at their local school or in the community on a regular basis.

  • Conduct professional learning training with faculty and staff to determine school needs and discuss purposeful implementation and coordination of effective strategies in family engagement.

  • Serve as liaison and translator (as appropriate) between the school, parents/guardians and community for Title I activities.

  • Evaluate and assess the needs of parents at the local school. Review reports to evaluate the effectiveness of parent and family engagement programs. Develop, analyze and distribute the results of the evaluations to the school’s leadership team and/or Federal Programs Director as well as other stakeholders.

  • Maintain records of all parent and family engagement activities, reports, surveys, evaluations, annual program evaluations and communications to parents.

  • Ensure the school’s parent and family engagement program remains in compliance with all state and federal guidelines.

  • Stay informed of the most current parent and family engagement requirements and guidance.

     

  • Take part in professional learning opportunities at the local, regional, and/or state level with proper authorization; attend local meetings and trainings for Parent Engagement Facilitators; share ideas and experiences with school or district staff, leadership team, and/or other parent professionals.

  • Design and coordinate a Parent Engagement Program and recruitment plan of parents within the school.

  • Develop and distribute Title I informational resources, including core content standards-based resources, at events and through the Parent Resource Center for parents/guardians.

  • Collaborate effectively with school administration and teachers to coordinate parent services; and to identify and provide core content resources to assist families.

  • Provide program updates, and ongoing and systematic professional training to school staff, parents and community groups.

  • Encourage parent/guardian participation in school, PTA and other appropriate parent activities.

  • Use technology effectively to enhance communication, reporting, training and provision of services in the Parent Engagement Program.

  • Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position.

  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner.

  • Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.

  • Review current developments, literature and technical source information related to the job responsibilities.

  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.

  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and allowable pursuant to applicable grant funding requirements.
